COMMISSIONER WATER RESOUCES DEVELOPMENT MEETS WITH LEADERS OF OLERO CREEK COMMUNITIES OVER PROVISION OF WATER AND POWER.

The Olero creek communities of Udo, Ajemetan, Tebu Gbokoda, Jakpa, Ebrohimi and Obaghoro are riverine rural oil producing communities in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State.

On Thursday 14th November 2024, the Honorable Commissioner for Water Resources Development. Hon. Dr. Isaac Wilkie met with Community Leaders of the Olero Creek Communities.

The Meeting which was a response to a letter addressed to H.E. Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori; signed by stakeholders of these Communities to plead for the intervention of his administration to provide potable water and power; threatening breakdown of Law and Order.

In the meeting, Former Warri North Council Chairman and Current Ebrohimi Community Chairman Hon. Aduge Okorodudu told the Commissioner that there was a time they shutdown Chevron operations in the area before the Immediate past Governor H.E. Sen. Dr. Ifeayin Okowa intervened. He promised to provide water for the communities and an agreement was reached that the government do reticulation to Chevron Flow stations and hook-up to the facility.

Contracts were awarded and pipelines laid to the flow stations but at the point of hook-up Chevron stopped the contractors and denied making such commitment.

Responding, The Honorable Commissioner for Water Resources Development. Hon. Dr. Isaac Wilkie expressed gratitude to H.E. Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for graciously approving the improvement of the water schemes on Olero Creeks. He further pleaded with the communities that there would hence be no need to breakdown Law and order.

Along the Olero Creek, Improvement of Obaghoro, Ebrohimi, Tebu, Gbokoda, Udo is already awarded, and contractors would be in site soon and on the Dibi axis, Tisun and Kolokolo are also set to receive major improvements.

“Thank you all for honoring my call and I appreciate your honesty in this dialogue.
As one who grew up along these creeks, I understand what it means to be surrounded by so much water and still find potable water hard to get.
There would be no need to protest or breakdown law & order. On the issue of water, we are already making necessary arrangements to solve this water challenges once and for all.
Along the Olero Creek, Improvement of Obaghoro, Ebrohimi, Tebu, Gbokoda, Udo is already awarded, and contractors would be in site soon and on the Dibi axis, Tisun and Kolokolo are also set to receive improvements.
I urge you to support them and own and manage these facilities and other government facilities as though it were yours because in essence it is yours.

Hon. Rolland Ukuesan thanked the commissioner and His Excellency for having the Olero Creeks in mind for a lasting solution and suggested a town hall meeting with community members as the youth have lost faith in them thinking they only come to Asaba to get fat envelopes and not really representing them.
